David has an A. B. (Amherst, 1835), a graduate in
1838 of the Theological Seminary at Hartford,
Conn., Congregational minister at Willington,
Conn., from 1839 to 1859 and at Prescott, Mass.,
from 1859 until his death. David was reared at
Grafton, where his father moved when David was
three years old. After his sixteenth year he was
apprenticed to an uncle at Worcester, Mass., to
learn the Mason's trade, and in 1825 was engaged as
a clerk in the drygoods house of Everett &
Bruce of Cambridge, Mass., leaving there to prepare
for Amherst under Rev. Selah R. Arms of
Grafton.
