Thomas had an A. B. (Harvard, 1788), A. M. (ibid.,
1791). Thomas was for a time clerk of the courts,
and lived in the Poynton House on Brown Street,
Salem. After resigning this position he went abroad
as Supercargo. In 1801 he was one of the
subscribers to the fund to level Salem Common.
(Essex Institute Historical Collections, vol. 4,
pp.11 and 279). He was a member of the
Philosophical Library Company of Salem, organized
in 1781.
The will of Thomas Bancroft, dated 4 December 1806
and proved 24 March 1808, mentions sisters, Bridget
and Mary, his parnets (then living), son Thomas P.,
and a nephew John Danforth. His sister Bridget
Bancroft was made executrix.
Thomas had lived at Salem, Mass., and his
occupation - he served as Supercargo of the ship
"Hercules".
