Children, as given in Stearns' "History of Rindge,
N. H. " At three years of age John Bancroft was
taken to Lynn, where he lived with his uncle John
Bancroft (No. 8), to whom he was afterwards bound
out. (See "Lynn in the Revolution," by Howard
Kendall Sanderson, 1909, vol. 1, p. 200.)
John Bancroft moved to Rindge, N. H., in 1777,
according to Stearns' "History of Rindge," and in
1820 settled at Union.
John Bancroft was a soldier in the War of the
Revolution, and his record reads as follows:
"Bancraft, John, Lynn. Private, Capt. Ezra
Newhall's Co., which marched on the alarm of April
19, 1775; service, 15 days.
"Bancraft, John Lynn. Matross Capt. Callender's
Co., Col. Gridley's (Artillery) regt.; muster roll
dated Aug. 1, 1775; enlisted July 19, 1775; service
12 days.
"Bancroft, John, Lynn. Capt. ezra Newhall's Co.,
Col. Mansfield's regt.; order for advance pay dated
Cambridge, June 8, 1775; also, Private; muster roll
dated Aug. 1, 1775, enlisted May 5, 1775; service,
3 mos. 4 days; also, Private and Corporal; company
returns dated October 6, 1775; also, Capt.
Newhall's Co., Col Israel Hutchinson's (19th)
regt.; order for bounty coat or its equivalent in
money, dated Winter Hill, Nov. 4, 1775."
