Timothy died at the age of 68 and is buried at
Common at Nelson, Nelson, New Hampshire. On 4 June
1833 Timothy Bancroft made a pension declaration
stating that in July or August 1778 he enlisted
from Tyngsborough (then a part of Dunstable) in
Captain Varnum's company, Colonel Thatcher's
regiment, and marched to Providence, R. I., and
after remaining there a few days marched to Rhode
Island (the Island); that he was in the battle
under General Sullivan, retreated to Providence
after the battle, thence to Hudson river above New
York, thence into New Jersey to Rahway and
Woodbridge, where they were stationed during the
winter guarding the line while the Continental
troops were in winter quarters. The enemy lay at
Perth Amboy and came out before he was dismissed,
there was a battle, the enemy being driven back.
Bancroft's reliability was vouched for by Rev. Gad
Newell and Samuel Scripture, and the pension of L23
33s. was granted 9 January 1834, to be paid
annually.
