Thaddeus Bancroft of Warwick, Mass., Universalist
minister, a settler in 1808 at Sodus, Wayne Co.,
New York, farmer, innkeeper, justice of the peace.
Thaddeus at the age of 16 enlisted in the
Revolution as a private in Capt. Seth Pierce's
company, Col. Seth Murray's regiment. He is
described as being five feet, eight inches tall,
and of dark complexion. He served from 15 July 10
10 Oct. 1780, enlisting for three months service on
his arrival at the regiment at Claverack, New York.
The tavern owned by Mr. Bancroft at Sodus was
burned by the British, probably in the War of 1812.
The fatigue and excitement caused the death of his
wife.
